Instructional Design

The following information details experience optained while working as an instructional technologist at Florida State Univerisity. My duties as an instructional technologist include that of both instructional design and multimedia production.

Canvas Learning Management System

While working at Florida State University, I began my journey as a support specialist for the Blackboard Learning Management system in the Office of Distance Learning. After working part-time for a university wide group for one year, supporting thousands of faculty and students, and producing valuable LMS training material, I acquired a full-time position as an instructional technologist in the College of Business where I have since been for two years.

In my current role, I have provided educational technology support to over 120 faculty members and over 50 doctoral students. A large part of my job involves solving technical issues with the Canvas Learning Management System; designing ADA compliant course sites (face-to-face, online, and hybrid); and training these individuals on how to utilize lecture capture technology (e.g. Kaltura, Screenflow), third party tools (e.g. GoToMeeting) and the One Button Studio to enhance student learning.

With regards to developing and building fully ADA compliant course sites, I work with faculty and doctoral students in analyzing content, goals, objectives, and informational architecture. Once this information is determined, I work on training them on ideal methods of delivery and build course sites that are accesible to all students, regardless of disability. This allows for a more constructive and engaging user experience for students. Additional LMS experience includes large content and data migration from the Blackboard to Canvas learning management system.

Note: I am currently in the process of acquiring approval to include visual instructional design examples on this page.
